We are now open, but taking precautions during the pandemic.

About Dr. vanVliet

Dr. vanVliet is a board-certified Plastic Surgeon with a profound love and respect for ‘all things skin’.
She has recently moved to Salt Spring Island in order to fulfill her life long dream to live on this lovely isle. Dr. vanVliet founded the “Spring Skin” clinic in order to fully embrace the surgical and non-surgical aspects of caring for skin. She provides a wide array of minor surgical services for the removal of skin lesions (both benign and malignant) as well as an extensive array of aesthetic skin rejuvenation procedures. She is delighted to be here and to be of service to her new community.
As a woman in her middle years, Dr. vanVliet is a strong advocate for her female patients and their health and wellness is paramount to her practice. She understands that the multi-billion dollar Beauty industry can manipulate and create confusion while leaving people out of pocket – with no real approach or results. As a Plastic surgeon Dr. vanVliet understands the science behind skin; what it takes to prevent and reverse skin damage and aging – she sees her role as one of demystifying skin care. She cuts through the ‘white noise’ and manipulation of the Beauty industry – and provides a sane and safe haven for her clients. She brings her expertise and clarity to the mix and places a premium on patient education and empowerment.
From a young age, Dr. vanVliet was fascinated by both the arts and anatomy. Dr. vanVliet was drawn to Plastic Surgery so she could integrate both of those loves in her reconstructive practice. Dr. vanVliet received her Bachelor of Science, followed by a Master of Science, at the University of Guelph. She completed her medical school training with Honours standing at the University of Toronto in 1994 and then went on to complete her specialty training in Plastic Surgery at McMaster University. She has been affiliated with Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario from 2000 until her recent retirement late in 2018 as she prepared for her BIG leap to BC. In addition to being a highly accomplished Plastic surgeon, Dr. vanVliet has also served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Southlake Regional Hospital as well as being a clinical lecturer and teacher for the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. She is an active member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgery (CSPS), the Canadian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (CSAPS) and the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ontario and BC. Dr. vanVliet has recently received her privileges here at Lady Minto Hospital and she is delighted to join the excellent medical team there.

COVID-19 Procedures

We are Open!

We are opening our doors and we are looking forward to having you back to Spring Skin! Know that we have been working diligently behind the scenes to create and implement safety protocols that will safeguard you, our team and our community.

We are continuing to work closely with local authorities so that we can continue to offer our personalized service while keeping you and our team safe.

This is not business as usual but we will be working hard to accommodate all our patients in a timely fashion. As we transition our practice back, the clinic hours will be more restricted and all clinic visits will be by appointment only. We will be reaching out to all our patients that we need to reschedule. If you would like to schedule an appointment or have questions please contact us:

Email us: info@springskin.ca
or contact us by phone: 250-931-3110

For scheduled visits, we have implemented additional safety measures, over and above the standard universal precautions that are the norm in our practice. It is important that our clinic is a safe place for you and for our team. Key to this will be honouring social distancing where we can and we will schedule patients accordingly. For procedures where we cannot distance we will be utilizing standard OR protocol and PPE’s to reduce the risk of acquiring COVID through closer encounters. If you have any questions regarding these safety measures please do not hesitate to contact us.

In preparation for any patients, scheduled for a clinic appointment, we ask that you confirm the following information by phone PRIOR to coming to our office:

  • Do you have any cold or flu-like symptoms, specifically fever, cough or shortness of breath?
  • Have you come into contact with anyone who has these symptoms or who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or the flu?
  • If yes to any of the above questions we ask you to defer your appointment with us at least 14 days. We appreciate your cooperation and will be happy to assist you with any rescheduling required.

Along with our usual universal precautions practices, we’re adopting the following hygiene precautions:

  • You may enter the clinic by appointment only. Our office manager will call / text when it is appropriate for you to enter the clinic
  • We would ask that you:
  • do not bring in more personal items than is required
  • do not bring in food / drink containers
  • limit visitors to just yourself or one care-giver if required
  • come with a protective mask; we will provide one for you if you dont have one
  • Be on time for your appointment: our scheduling of patients is to optimize social distancing and patient safety – it is unlikely we will be able to accommodate early or late arrivals.
  • Hand sanitizer is available at the reception desk. We will ask each patient to sanitize their hands upon arrival at the clinic.
  • We have medical grade hand sanitizer through the office so please feel free to clean your hands.
  • We will usher you into private treatment rooms upon your arrival to optimize social distancing.
  • Our staff is trained and equipped with their PPE to ensure every one’s safety.
  • We wash our hands between each individual patient and each procedure.
  • All clinic surfaces, and equipment are disinfected before and after every patient visit
  • You can expect that we do not have unwell staff at work in the practice, which has been a longstanding policy.

We will continue to monitor the Ministry of Health guidance closely and maintain regular communication with you as we navigate through these challenging times together. Stay Smart, Stay Safe and we look forward to hearing from you soon!

Thank you,

Dr Deborah vanVliet
