Injectable moisturizer? Here’s what you need to know
Lauded as ‘injectable moisturizers’ a new wave of Hyaluronic acid (HA) injectables have formed a group of advanced aesthetic treatments known as Skin Boosters. Most notably, Italy’s Profhilo and Swiss made Redensity 1 (RD1) lead the way in ‘beneath the skin’ HA moisturizing and skin toning treatments. These revolutionary HA gels are not like dermal fillers but instead they are employed to improve skin quality and tone. They hydrate the skin without volumizing it, helping prevent laxity, and lending the complexion a healthy, dewy, ‘you look well’ glow.
What is Hyaluronic Acid (HA)?
The hyaluronic acid within these injectable Skin Boosters, are water-binding molecules that hold manifold their weight in water, like sponges under the skin that draw hydration in. Hyaluronic acid is a natural constituent of human skin, as are collagen and elastin – and they diminish with aging unless we intervene. As we age, we need to stimulate and support our skin to Boost hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin production – otherwise skin thins, gets crepey and more lax.
Profhilo
Profhilo is a pure and highly concentrated HA injectable gel and it hydrates and bio-remodels your skin’s collagen and elastin. It’s anti-aging benefits are excellent for the treatment areas of the face, neckline, décolletage and anywhere you have lax, crepey skin. Profhilo has won many aesthetic awards and has been proven safe and highly effective over the past few years in the hands of our European colleagues. It has only recently become available for use in North America. Profhilo requires 10 strategically placed intra-dermal injections per treatment area (ex. face). This leaves small wheals, like bee sting-like swellings, that can last up to 24 hours, with a small risk for potential bruising.
Two treatment sessions are required, 1 month apart to get started and the results of these stacked treatments will last a good six months. After that, one maintenance session every six months is all that is required.
Teoxane’s Redensity 1 (RD1)
Teoxane’s Redensity 1 (RD1) is a skin Booster that can be used all over the face as a full hydration and skin repair treatment. It combines pure HA with three anti-oxidants, eight amino acids, two minerals and a vitamin. This potent cocktail will not only hydrate the skin but will prevent premature skin aging and it will help protect your skin against the damaging effects of UV exposure. It imparts a beautiful and healthy glow to the skin.
RD1 is formulated such that we can micro-dose it into the skin with a micro-needling device that is comfortable and imparts no downtime. The treatment is more global than Profhilo, and it allows us to treat areas of the forehead, eyelids, crows feet and lip lines during facial treatments – something that Profhilo does not. At Spring Skin we refer to these treatments are Micro-Infusion Gold treatments. And although one treatment will leave you glowing, maximal benefits of glow, hydration and protection are achieved with 3 stacked, monthly treatments to start and then maintenance sessions can be done seasonally or every six months.
Which Skin Booster to Choose?
As a rule, patients wanting to improve skin health, hydration, skin protection and get a beautiful ‘wow’ glow will benefit by a series of three stacked RD1 based Micro-Infusion sessions. Profhilo, in contrast, is great for those patients concerned with restoring tone, elasticity and hydration to crepey skin.
