HA Dermal Fillers
Dr vanVliet chooses from a wide array of Hyaluronic (HA) dermal fillers to sculpt, elevate and rejuvenate facial contours and proportions. These fillers are safe, minimally invasive and FDA approved for volume restoration. She makes tiny incremental volume changes to create subtle, but impactful harmonized results. Her comprehensive understanding of facial anatomy and proportions ensure that you will have natural, refreshed appearance – and that you will never look like you’ve had ‘work done’.
What is Hyaluronic acid?
HA is a naturally occurring substance found in our bodies (joints, eyes and skin) that absorbs water like a sponge. As we age our HA gets depleted and with that we lose our skin hydration and plumpness. The dewy, smooth and moist skin that we love in babies – that’s HA!
HA based fillers are easily accepted by the body with very low complication rates. Dr vanVliet chooses from a wide array of HA fillers from the Juvederm, Restalyn and Teosyal families. These fillers are slowly metabolized and last anywhere from 6 to 18 months depending on the type and placement of the filler.
Are HA fillers safe?
Safety is an obvious concern for patients undertaking injectable treatments with fillers. Dr vanVliet uses only FDA approved, safe HA based fillers that are absorbable and if need be, reversible. Our body easily tolerates HA fillers, and complications rates are very low.

Will the injections hurt?
Fear of pain with facial injections is real. Dr vanVliet uses ultra-fine needles and cannulas to reduce your discomfort as well as your risk of bruising. She will often used adjunctive modalities such as topical freezing and vibration to reduce discomfort during your injections. As well, most hyaluronic based fillers that she uses come pre-combined with freezing in them to help reduce injection discomfort. Most patients find this an easily tolerable procedure.
Recovery and Results
- You can resume most normal daily activities after your treatment session, but plan on having an easy day. Sitting is preferable.
- To reduce bruising or swelling we ask that you refrain from the following activities on the day of your treatment:
- No exercise or getting overheated
- No massage / touch of injection sites
Are there any risks?
In the right hands, dermal fillers are very safe non-surgical treatments with minimal risks. Dr vanVliet is a conservative and skilled injector with a comprehensive understanding of facial anatomy. Bruising occasionally occurs, especially in highly vascularized areas such as the lips. As we get older our skin is thinner and this increases the potential for bruising with any intervention. Dr vanVliet uses sterile injection techniques, so infection rates are very low. The risk of injection into or around a blood vessel causing tissue damage or potential loss of vision is rare.
What’s the difference between wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers?
While they are both injectable, and they are both offered as a means of fixing wrinkles, Neurotoxins target the wrinkles that are caused by the repetitive movement of facial muscles. Dermal fillers, in contrast, replace lost volume underneath the skin to smooth out wrinkles from below the skin’s surface, effectively “sculpting and filling” wrinkles from the inside out
