Surgery
Dr vanVliet has a strong interest in all things skin. As a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, she is trained and experienced in the surgical removal of both benign as well as cancerous skin lesions. Her expertise allows her to surgically remove lesions with minimal scars and very little down-time.
Benign skin lesions
The surgical removal of most benign skin lesions such as moles, cysts or aging spots can easily be done under local freezing, and often on a same day basis. No referral is needed for the elective removal of benign skin lesions given that they are not funded by MSP. MSP does not fund the surgical excision of benign skin lesions for aesthetic purposes and therefore fees will apply. During your initial consultation, Dr vanVliet will personally assess you and provide you with a treatment plan, including the associated costs.

Cancerous Skin Lesions
Dr vanVliet works closely with our Salt Spring Family physicians and local Dermatologists to provide expert and expedient care of any worrisome skin lesions you may have. If you have a skin lesion of concern, a formal referral by your dermatologist or family physician will be required in order for you to be seen by Dr vanVliet under the MSP umbrella. Once we receive your referral we will set up your initial consultation.
Because of the complexity of most skin cancer reconstruction, planning is required and your surgical procedure will need to be scheduled for a subsequent appointment. Dr vanVliet performs much of her reconstructive skin cancer procedures at Lady Minto hospital. The procedures are performed under local anesthetic – which means less risk, and no need for fasting or lab work. Often you wont have to alter any of your medications, unless you are on blood thinners like Aspirin, or Coumadin. At Spring Skin we will work closely with you to coordinate expedient, safe and effective care.
